North Wexford has an amazing coastline and now you can see more of it from the new Cahore Cliff Walk!
You can do a loop walk of about 5k, starting at Cahore Point (just to the left of The Strand Bar), over to the beautiful Old Bawn beach, and back again. After a refreshing cuppa or restorative eats at The Strand Bar in Cahore, you’ll be all set again!
It’s easy to walk!
The Cliff Walk has been developed by Ballygarrett Tidy Towns and Wexford County Council. It’s level, it’s wide, it’s easy to bring a buggy and, best of all, it’s got stunning views north and south. You will feel better after walking it, guaranteed!
If you’re a committed walker, you can keep walking along Old Bawn Beach and walk for miles along this sandiest of beaches. You’ll come to Ballinoulart beach, Ballyteige Bay beach, Morriscastle Strand and, well, keep going til the sand stops. There’s no shortage of Irish Sea waves lapping along this coast, so whether you’re walking or jogging, getting fit, or looking for peace and quiet, you’ll find it all on this stretch of Wexford. And, while you’re down this way, pop into Upton Court Hotel – or stay a few nights – for trad music and fab food!
Regular walks
Rightly so, this latest addition to Wexford’s Walking Trails and Ireland’s Ancient East is proving popular. In January, over 250 walkers took part in the national Operation Transformation walk here! Keep an eye on Ballygarrett Tidy Towns’ Facebook page for regular walks along this new route on Saturday mornings. What a way to kickstart the day.
At the start of the walk in Cahore, on a fine day, you can look north and see all the way to Wickow Head. As you head south along the walk, keep an eye out for Cahore Castle on the right-hand side. It was designed by English architect Daniel Robertson – the historians and architects amongst will know that Mr Robertson also designed Wells House in Ballyedmond.
Y’all know that our coastline is breathtaking – and the view as you round the corner to get your first glimpse of Old Bawn beach will indeed take your breath away. The stretch of sand, the sand dunes, the combination of sky and sun and sea will make you marvel at this natural gift right on our doorstep.
