This year’s Culture Night, will return on September 22nd and will see venues, cafe’s and artist’s
spaces open their doors, with free events programmed from 4pm till late. In Gorey events will
run from 4pm in the town and surrounding areas featuring arts, dance, heritage, music,
workshops, talks and demonstrations. Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the
Arts Council and is supported by Wexford County Council, Gorey District and the County
Wexford Arts Office.
Caroline Bergin Art

Join us at Caroline Bergin Art Esmonde Street Gorey to celebrate the different cultures living in Gorey and surrounding areas. During the evening 20 min workshops will be held where everyone gets to make a small art piece which represents for them what Home means to them all the pieces will be added to a collaborative wall piece of art which will remain on show at the studio. Culture Night 2023 – Sunrise by Niamh Darcy
Local artist Niamh Darcy will exhibit her beautiful sunrise images from our North Wexford coastline at Morriscastle beach. Taken throughout lockdowns in Covid times, these images are a reminder of a slower time when we could stop and appreciate the natural beauty around us. This exhibition will take place in Partridge’s Bistro from 6 to 9pm

Culture Night in The Gaslamp Gallery on Esmonde St
Artist Maria Dowling will be in situ at the Gaslamp Gallery working on a live seascape.
Maria Dowling is an award winning Irish Artist from Fermoy, Co. Cork. However her grandfather
was born and brought up in Courtown, Co. Wexford. As a child Maria spent much time in
Wexford and she has great love and affection for the area. This is most evident in her beautiful
original artworks of the beaches and landscapes of North Wexford. These include Ballymoney,
Cahore, Old Bawn and Morriscastle Beaches. “Contemporary harmoniously colourful ,
figurative atmospheric oil paintings with a timeless quality”
Light refreshments will be served.
Culture Night - The Sweet Sorrows in The Bear Cave
An evening of stories and songs.
The Sweet Sorrows are professional musicians who use their art to help enable them to go and work with refugees/ displaced people/ economically disadvantaged, in various countries including Ukraine, Romania and the Thai /Burmese Border. They have drawn from these experiences to write some of their music and stories. This evening would be a presentation of such stories and a gentle and entertaining way to help people further understand some of the issues faced presently.

The Freemason's Hall
The Freemasons Centre in Gorey will throw open its doors for Culture Night audiences including its upstairs meeting room. Members of the committee will be onsite for informal talks and tours.

St Michael’s Road
Gorey School of Art will be a hub of creative activity on Culture Night offering taster workshops in drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking. Also on the night there will be film screenings in their cinema. Screening times will be advertised closer to the event.

North Wexford Historical Society
North Wexford Historical Society in association with Wexford County Council invite you to take part in Culture Night in Gorey. They will host an evening exhibition about Gorey Town and the Main Street and will host a lecture in our Historic Gorey Market House. Enjoy some photographs of times gone by and our Main Street and learn more about our
historic heritage in the centre of Gorey Town. The exhibition will run from 4 to 9pm and the lecture is scheduled from 7.00pm to 8.00pm
Art Demonstration by Kate Kos
Kate Kos is excited to showcase her artistic process at her gallery on St. Michael’s Road. Join her at 6pm as she brings a flower painting to life right before your eyes. Feel free to stop by, inquire about Kate’s techniques and sources of inspiration, and take the opportunity to enter a draw for a chance to win the very artwork she crafts that day. Ceol Mo Chroi Culture Club in The Book Cafe
The Ceol Mo Chroí Culture Club is an intergenerational performance and participatory event devised and delivered by Rachel Uí Fhaoláin (Ceol Mo Chroí) and John Ó Faoláin (Traditional Archive Channel). The community are invited to come together in The Book Café i nGuaire from 8pm – 10pm, for an evening of traditional song, film screenings, music, dance, poetry and stories, while supporting the Irish language.
Culture Night - ‘Cahore, Ballygarrett and Killlenagh Re-Lived"
‘Cahore, Ballygarrett and Killenagh Re-Lived’ invites audiences to a
nostalgic view of these local places. Characters, Historic Buildings and
‘Holiday Makers’ over the years will all be viewed through the medium of
Photography. – The exhibition takes place in The Schooner Bar from 7.30pm
Culture Night - Ballythomas to Memphis & Back, Road Trip to the Cradle of the Blues
Forty years after seeing Rory Gallagher in the National Stadium, local musician Ashley Hayden
took his guitar and harmonica on a road trip from Chicago to the Mississippi Delta.
In this presentation, with live music, spoken word, and a sequence of photographs, he relives
his journey, and explores the links between traditional Irish music and the Blues.
With particular reference to Rory Gallagher, Muddy Waters, and in the context of forced
migration, religious and racist oppression, he highlights why Irish people so identify with the
blues. Taking place in The Gap Pub, Ballythomas, from 9 to 10pm – Booking required
