Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI) is a very busy seal rescue and rehabilitation organisation located in Courtown. This charity operates the only seal rehabilitation facility in the Republic of Ireland and therefore responds to strandings nationwide.
Established in 2010, SRI now manages a network of over 800 volunteers from all over Ireland, to rescue, transport and rehabilitate a growing number of native common and grey seal pups each year, with the ultimate goal of returning them fit and healthy back to the wild. Despite limited resources, last year SRI successfully rehabilitated and released an impressive 74% of the 112 seal pups admitted. They also run very active educational programs and community outreach events to promote ocean conservation and sustainability.
In 2017, SRI welcomed over 30,000 visitors from all over the world to its Seal Rescue Centre which consists of the hospital, education centre and gift shop. People of all ages are encouraged to come for a free tour to see and learn about the seals in care.
There are ample opportunities to get involved and support SRI with programmes such as Adoptions, Donations, Corporate Volunteer Days, Rescuer-For-A-Day, Memberships, School Tours and Birthday Parties, and more.
