Gorey Writers Group

The Gorey Writers Group was founded by Bernie Walsh in 2006.  We started off small but over time grew so big, there was no longer space in the Gorey library for us.  We have written two anthologies together as a group, ‘Fledglings’ in 2016, launched by the late John Wyse Jackson who owned Zozimus (now closed) in the Book Café, and ‘Taking Flight’ in 2019, launched by Hot Press’s Jackie Hayden.  Boland Press published both anthologies.  We have a host of local well-known writers from the group including Caroline Busher who last week launched her third novel ‘The Legend of Valentine Sorrow’, published by Poolbeg.

A new chapter for The Gorey Writers as Bernie has retired from The Gorey Writers Group, but will always be the heart and soul of the group, who gave much love, time, and encouragement over the years.  She assigned me as chairperson, and for the first time, we have a committee.

We will begin 2022 by our writer’s sessions upstairs in The Loch Garman Arms.  We meet every second Monday.  Members must have proof of their Covid 19 vaccination, this is in line with Government regulations!!!!  Places are limited, and we are currently at capacity, but do have both a waiting list, where we will be happy to put your name and number.   For more information check out our page on Facebook and/or email writersingorey@gmail.com

There is also for the first time a Gorey Writers Zoom Group ran up to late by Mark Rice, but will be run by Rita and Maybelle.  For the moment if you are interested in the Zooming, drop us a line to writersingorey@gmail.com, where we can forward your email to Rita, Mark, and Maybelle.

All the best
