Heather Cody Photography Exhibition
I am a documentary photographer, seeking to create awareness of vulnerable groups through photography. I graduated from IADT in 2018 and I am now privileged to study for a Masters on the MA ARC, Art Research and Collaboration Program, IADT, Dun Laoire. While there I have found my way as a documentary photographer. I draw inspiration from the great American photographers, Dorothea Lange and Diane Arbus.
Homeless is a documentary study on the Homeless crises in my home County, Wexford, through words, images and audio. I am grateful to all who participated in this exhibition. All of the images were taken in County Wexford.
All of the words are spoken by the participants who have taken part with unequivocal consent. Most Homeless people in Wexford do not live in tents. Some live in the men’s Hostel. Some sleep in cars or in doorways. Others couch serf, begging favours from Family and Friends.
There is no Hostel for women and children who find themselves in this situation. If they are lucky they will get emergency accommodation from Wexford County Council. There is no guarantee that it will be in the same town where the children had previously attended school.
Homeless aims to create awareness in a positive light and to give people a voice.
