Walking Tour of Gorey Town with Gallivanting Tours
As part of the North Wexford History & Heritage Festival, Gallivanting Tours will guide you through the streets and history of Gorey.
Starting at the Market House at 10am, your guide will walk you up to Christchurch, down the Avenue, along by the Train Station, down to St Michael’s and back onto the Main Street.
Along the way your guide will tell a number of stories including the what went on in the Market House during 1798,
the new building that went on after the Railway came, Hunter Gowan and Brownes Pub, the Frank Clarke Windows, the assassination of Lea Wilson, the arrival of the Railway in Gorey,
Auguste Pugin and St Michaels, Bates Coaches and what coach travel to Gorey in the 18th & 19th centuries was like, Frenches Pub – the oldest in Wexford and, finally, when Dean Swift came to Gorey for a holiday and was almost shot!
