Wild Nature Wandering Series – Natural Cordage
For ages 18 and up:
A series of wandering short, accessible rewilding experiences to take place along the Eastern Coast to share the relaxing and affirming of Connecting with Nature and Old Ways.
We will explore Ancestral Crafts, Old Ways, Sensory Engagement with the Natural World
Along the way we hope to create connections, breathe life back into some plants, animals and places that we might otherwise overlook and build a community of people who can share their experiences, knowledge and wisdom.
We hope this day will be Informative, Connective, Restorative and Fun
The Series will build towards full weekend immersive retreats, starting Early Spring 2020, that offer an opportunity to deepen these experiences and connections.
There are many plants in our back gardens, suburban neighbourhoods and local wild places that, with a bit of knowledge and connection will offer us the Gift of cordage or string.
This workshop will explore 2-3 abundant plants, primarily nettle, that can be harvested, processed and worked to obtain fibres and teach a method (twining) of making string from the fibres of these plants.
Making cordage in this way is a pan-cultural (present across many cultures) craft that has been with us in this country, since the Bronze Age while also co-evolving and being present in other ancestral cultures.
There will also be opportunities to make connections with the plants we are working with through the lenses of our senses and curiosity, share our collective knowledge, wisdom and experiences and to integrate the experience through quiet time.
