It is with much excitement and anticipation that Kia Ora Mini Farm will open its doors again next Monday the 26th April at 10 am. Having been closed for many months it has been a tough road for the farm and the owners, but Podge and his team are delighted that they have been given the green light to reopen so that they can again welcome visitors to their award winning tourist attraction that is such a favourite here in North Wexford.
Kia Ora Mini Farm was opened by Maura O’Donohoe in 1991 and so they celebrate their 30th birthday this year. Through the years there have been many obstacles and we have operated through recessions before but the current pandemic has been their biggest challenge to date. The uncertainty has been very hard for the team and while the farm has been closed Podge has continued to work behind the scenes without an income but with huge bills such as insurance and feed. The animals need constant care, cleaning and feeding and Kia Ora has had to rely on the help of family and friends during this time who have been a fantastic support.
In relation to the animals during lockdown, their lives have not been affected much and they are very happy. They are now in their outdoor paddocks, having been cosy in the large shed for the winter and we have had some beautiful new arrivals. They most likely miss the buzz around the place as do we all and it will be amazing to welcome everyone back over the next few months. Podge is also excited to get all his team back in and to hear the excited shouts and laughter of children about the place again enjoying good old-fashioned fun on the diggers and gokarts.
In relation to Covid measures, you can be assured all guidelines are adhered to and the team have completed both the Fáilte Ireland Safety Charter and the Wexford Welcomes You Safely training. Their online booking system is now open (https://kiaoraminifarm.ie/shop/general-admission-time-slot/) to limit numbers and maintain social distancing at the farm. Signage has been updated and masks will be mandatory on entering the coffee shop for all adults and children over 12 years. The coffee shop will operate as takeaway only under the guidelines but there are many outdoor seating areas for visitors and as always picnics are very welcome. Sadly, the Fire Engine is unable to run at present but once guidelines ease it will be back in action! All other attractions will be running as normal and there are plenty of hand sanitising and cleaning stations located around the farm.
Further improvements throughout Winter include the replacement of the deer pens, the installation of artificial grass at the maze, and plenty of painting, cleaning, and planting! The nets on the maze are currently being upgraded and the play train repainted. It is all go now for re-opening next week.
