Samhain Woodland Workshop

Halloween in Gorey

Samhain Woodland Workshop

As the wheel of the year turns towards winter, this walking workshop takes you on a journey into the past.
Take a Woodland Walk with a Witch and discover the true roots of this ancient festival!
Beginning at the Kilbride High Cross, we take some time to unravel the carvings on the Cross. Originally used to convert the native pagan population, we reverse it and explore the four agricultural festivals, their spiritual meanings, the indigenous Goddess Worship and what Samhain meant for the average person living here hundreds and even thousands of years ago!
Moving through the darkening woods we visit three trees in turn, the Yew, the Holly and the Oak.
Each of these trees held immense importance to our ancestors, and you will discover why these trees in particular meant so much at this time of year.
Finally, as we walk you will discover the true story of the Wicked Witch of Halloween. How the wise Grandmother, the Caileach, or the Hag was demonised. Discover the Goddesses of the Tuatha De Danú, The Morrigan, Eirú, Banba and leaving the Powerful Sun God behind at Samhain, learn how she rules the winter alone!
Before you leave you will learn how to create your own special Samhain Ritual and sow the seeds for a fruitful year to come!
**Please Note** This is not a scary haunted woodland walk! It is an opportunity to discover the true pagan roots of this ancient festival in a beautiful wild woodland setting. Older Children and Dogs are welcome!
