An Ghairdín Draíochta (The Magic Garden)

Located on the Coach Road at Gorey Bridge, An Ghairdín Draíochta (The Magic Garden), is a bee and butterfly friendly garden created by Gorey Tidy Towns in 2014.
A haven of biodiversity, it is extensively planted, with two garden seats in the centre. It also has a detailed information panel at the entrance.
Each summer, the magnificent flowers spill out over the low boundary wall for passers-by to enjoy. The garden is regularly maintained and mowed by our volunteers, Tús and Community Employment scheme workers.
In September 2018, An Ghairdín Draíochta was chosen by Gorey Town Rocks as the site for the Bee Happy Well where people could leave rocks painted with inspirational messages. The Well was created by Gorey Men’s Shed.
Gorey Town Rocks artists also painted the air pollution monitoring box and added other colourful features beside the well.
In July 2019, the garden’s bird table was given an extreme makeover by Gorey Town Rocks founder Emma Brophy.
In April 2022 and January 2023, our CE Scheme, Tús team and volunteers planted new box hedging along the borders of some of the flower beds. These are special plants as they were cultivated from the box tree in the historic Market Square graveyard by Paul Woods of Kilmurry Nursery. We are very grateful to Christ Church parish Gorey for supporting us in this project.
In March 2023, we laid fresh bark mulch on the flower beds. This mulch was donated to us by Stella Davis of Davis Sawmills which is located nearby.
In September 2023, we installed a lovely garden miniature made by local man John Lacey. It’s another delightful feature in the Magic Garden for our young visitors to enjoy.
