Gorey St Patrick’s Day Parade
Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District and the Gorey St Patrick’s Day Festival Committee are
delighted to announce that the Annual Gorey St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 3.00pm
on Sunday 17th March, 2024.
The theme for this year’s festival will be Irish Music Legends and participants will be encouraged
to pay tribute to their particular legend. Committee and District Chair Cllr. Pip Breen explained
“Last year we lost some highly regarded Irish musicians such as Christie Dignam, Sinead
O’Connor and Shane McGowan. And with Co. Wexford hosting the Fleadh Cheoil and Gorey
Hosting the County Fleadh, the Committee are asking people taking part to pay tribute to all the
musicians from all genres of music that contribute so much to Irish culture and heritage.”
Speaking about the event District Manager, Philip Knight said “There is always great support
from the people of the north of the County for the St Patrick’s Day parade – hopefully this year’s
Parade will be just as well received. The weather has been kind to us for the last couple of years
which really adds to the atmosphere. We are all looking forward to celebrating a fantastic St.
Patrick’s Day here in Gorey.”
As in previous years, the Committee is seeking nominations from the Gorey community for the
Parade’s Grand Marshall. This honour is given by the people of Gorey to acknowledge the
positive contributions made by an individual to the town. This year in keeping with the theme
the Committee would be particularly interested in receiving nominations for those who have
contributed to the musical heritage of the town (although all nominations will be considered).
Nominations should be in writing to the St. Patrick’s Day Committee c/o Civic Offices, The
Avenue, Gorey up until 23rd
February, 2024.
The Parade will follow its traditional route, marshalling in Creagh before heading towards the
Carnew Road, past the monument, through McCurtain Street, Main, Street and Esmonde Street.
The Committee are accepting applications for groups wishing to participate in this year’s event.
Application forms are available from the Loch Garman Arms, Gorey Civic Centre or by emailing
[email protected].
