Cycle Against Suicide Splash-a-thon Returns

Cycle Against Suicide Splash-a-thon Returns

2023 sees the return of the Cycle Against Suicide Splash-a-thon in the Ashdown Park’s Club Ashdown pool on Saturday 25th February this year!

The event will take place over 24 hours and if the events of 2017, 2018, 2109 are anything to go by this year’s event promises to be a great day and all money raised will go towards the Headstrong schools programme within the charity Cycle Against Suicide.

Gosia, the manager of Club Ashdown alongside Joe Dixon aim to have 240 people participate over the 24 hours with 10 bikes running every hour!

Volunteers are asked to cycle a bike in the swimming pool for one hour and make a Splash Against Suicide with plenty of fun and surprises along the way. Music by DJ Cano throughout the day along with a few local celebrities making guest appearances will make this an eventful 24 hour period.

The event has in the past has welcome attendees ranging in age from 15 up to 82, so really it’s something for everyone and a great opportunity for other sporting clubs and gyms to get involved!

Joe says he is delighted to see the Splash-a-thon return to the AshdownParkHotel after a 3 year gap. Joe added ‘There are two main aims about this event, firstly and most importantly it’s about raising awareness about mental health, and then fundraising for the amazing support group, Cycle Against Suicide.

It’s a fun event that is enjoyed by family and friends as well as businesses and community groups,

The Dixons and Cycle Against Suicide wish to express their sincere gratitude to Gosia, Club Ashdown Manager and Paul Finegan, GM of The Ashdown Park Hotel for their continued support for his campaigning. The importance of support on every level is vital for members of a community so to have the support of the hotel behind us truly means the world to us and reminds us of what strong community support we receive from the Redmond brothers and why this is so important to us in Gorey.

Gosia, Club Ashdown Manager said it was wonderful to see the awareness of mental health for all age groups and giving people a fun social event to look forward to. More and more members are signing up to this club with both physical and mental health at the forefront of their offering, one of the main reasons we are supporting this campaign is that every day we recognise the benefits of daily physical activity for all ages.

Previous years have seen totals of €5000 raised and with the renewed energy behind the campaign Joe and Gosia are hoping for more.

To sign up, all you have to do is give the leisure centre a call on 053 9430451 and speak to the organiser in charge or visit https://eventmaster.ie/fundraising/pages/VH22213500 to donate.
